My First Day

Published by xorae692000 at 12:57 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

Hi All,

Today is my first day blogging for today.com and I have to say I am abit sceptical about it. Although I have another blog where its focused mainly on being a first time mom I thought to myself it couldn’t hurt to experiment blogging about something else other than motherhood. This something else would include my pursuit of gaining some form of online income since I’m a stay at home mom. For weeks I’ve been racking my brain researching here and there to see what my best options are. This one thing is true, no job is easy, even if you’re your own boss working at home online.

Its hard to get it right really. You read in forums that it takes time and it isn’t a get rich quick scheme to becoming a freelance writer. We all wish it were though but the fact of the matter is you’ve really got to work and work quite hard at it as well.  I’m the type of individual who’s really results oriented and if I’m not seeing the results or not quickly enough, I’m just about ready to throw in the towel. Maybe its a bad thing but then thats just how I am. I do visit other blogs of women like myself who are content producers, writers, freelancers and I’ve gathered its taken them sometime  to get a foot in and some are still searching for that gig.  Maybe I’ve become obsessed with wanting to find that site that pays well for work well done.

To be honest I’m yet to discover where it is.  I’ll say this now, I dislike work sites where you have to bid for a job.  The way I see it the recruiter ultimately will take the provider with the lowest bid with abit over satisfactory skills set as opposed to a higher bid with great credentials and guarantees to doing the job well.  I find it really disheartening to write a piece of work of between 300 to 500 words, do in depth research and preparation and to present for $2/$3 a pop. Its ludicrous. Not everyone is blessed with the gift of writing and the way I see it we who are aspiring writers are taken advantage of and as a result are really being exploited. All the effort that goes into researching and the work itself surely is worth much more. With the economic downturn we all need more than subsistence or living from hand to mouth, especially if you’re hoping for this to be your means of earning a living. I’ll continue tomorrow by letting you in on the sites I visited and what my impressions were of them.
